Maritime Boundaries Act

§ 1.  For the purposes of this Act, the maritime area is that part of the sea which borders on land and to which the jurisdiction of Estonia extends.

§ 2.  The maritime area is divided on the basis of the provisions of the Geneva Convention on the Territorial Sea and the Contiguous Zone of 1958 and the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea of 1982.

§ 3.  The baseline of the territorial sea is an imaginary line which, in the case of low water, connects the points on land, islands, islets, rock formations and single rocks above water level that are the furthest from the coastline. The coordinates of the baseline of the territorial sea are given in Annex 1.

§ 4.  The internal sea is the maritime area which lies between the baseline of the territorial sea and the coastline.

§ 5.  The territorial sea is the maritime area which is adjacent to the internal sea and the external boundary whereof is determined by this Act. The coordinates of the boundary of the territorial sea are given in Annex 2.

§ 6.  The breadth of the territorial sea is 12 nautical miles. Exceptions to the breadth of the territorial sea may be made on the basis of international conventions and treaties with neighbouring states.

§ 7.  The exclusive economic zone is the maritime area outside the territorial sea which is adjacent to the latter, and its external boundary is determined in concert with neighbouring states. The coordinates of the boundary of the exclusive economic zone are given in Annex 3.

§ 1.    Merealad on käesoleva seaduse mõistes maismaaga piirnev osa merest, millele laieneb Eesti jurisdiktsioon.

§ 2.    Merealade jaotuse aluseks on Genfi 1958.aasta territoriaalmere ja selle külgvööndi konventsiooni ning ÜRO 1982. aasta mereõiguse konventsiooni sätted.

§ 3.    Territoriaalmere lähtejoon on mõtteline joon, mis madalvee puhul ühendab omavahel maismaa, saarte, laidude, kaljude ja veest väljaulatuvate üksikute kivide rannikust kõige kaugemal asuvaid punkte.
Territoriaalmere lähtejoone koordinaadid on esitatud lisas 1.

§ 4.    Sisemeri on mereala, mis asub territoriaalmere lähtejoone ja ranniku vahel.

§ 5.    Territoriaalmeri on sisemerega külgnev mereala, mille välispiir on määratud käesoleva seadusega.
Territoriaalmere piiri koordinaadid on esitatud lisas 2.

§ 6.    Territoriaalmere laius on 12 meremiili. Territoriaalmere laiuse osas võib teha erandeid, lähtudes rahvusvahelistest konventsioonidest ja lepingutest naaberriikidega.

§ 7.    Majandusvöönd on väljaspool territoriaalmerd asuv ja viimasega külgnev mereala, mille välispiir on määratud naaberriikidega kooskõlastatult.
